- RESEARCH_NOTES:
1. An extractions of Sisley marriages in Pembury in chronological order from 1560 to 1700; unfortunately not one of them is for our immediate family:
1597 Oct 2 Richard Syley and Alice Coyfe
1599 Dec 7 Henry Sisley and Noane Coife
1606 Oct 12 Peter Turner and Jane Siseley
1630 Jan 20 John Sissly and Margeret Benge
1634 Jun 22 John Gibbens and Elizabeth Sisly
1660 Feb 5 Peeter Harue and Mary Sissly
1679 Jun 3 Richard Harold and Ellenour Sisley, by banns.
1681 Nov 2 Thomas Dauis and Susanna Sisley, widow
1684 Apr 6 Edward (blotted) Sisley and Elizabeth Clarke
1691 Oct 19 William Cackett and Elisabeth Sisley
2. The following extraction was made from the "Index to the Kent Lay Subsidy Roll of 1334/5," by H.A. Hanley, B.A. and C.W. Chalklin, M.A., B. Litt <http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Pub/KRV/18/7/313.htm> accessed 11 Feb 2016. From this index, the actual entries are found in "The Kent Lay Subsidy Roll of 1334/5," by the same authors <http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Pub/KRV/18/3/058-172.htm> accessed 12 Feb 2016. The second document more fully explains the history of this Lay Subsity. This was a tax assessed on householders; however, it probably only represents about 50% of the householders since the poorer families were not assessed:
No mentions were found for family surnames Acock/Alcock, Barret, Chepfield, Dancy, Dennett, Eagles, Gateland, Hadwin, Hales, Mills, Morskin, Shelley, Sisley, Strain, Vande Wall, Worme.
