1. FHL book 929.273 W462c "History and Genealogy of the Wells Family. Some Ancestors and Descendants of Thomas Wells of Saybrook and Hebron, Connecticut, who had come from Dudley, Worcestershire, England in 1712. "Joseph Wells. Third son of Thomas, "was born in Hebron, CT, 28 Aug. 1726, whence he removed about 1760 to Cambridge, NY, where he lived the remainder of his life, and died 6 Nov. 1819 age 95 years." He married in New London, CT, 17 May 1750 (Hebron vi. rec.: 1:55, CT) to Thankful SHAILER, daughter of Abel and Hannah (___) S. of Haddam, CT; she died 13 Sept. 1810 in Boston, MA (Shailer Gen.) in 84th yr both she and Joseph W were buried in the cemetery on the turnpike south of Cambridge village, NY. He had been captain and quartermaster in VanWoert's 16th regiment: Albany Co., NY militia during the American Revolution.
"In Cambridge in 1783, a pound was directed to be located on the east side of the road by Capt. Edmund Wells's house, Capt. Joseph Wells to build it, and Capt. Edmund Wells to be poundmaster". Stocks were also voted: "they were to be built by Capt. Joseph Wells near the pound. It is not told whether they were used to confine people" (Everts and Ensign: Hist. Washington Co., NY 1878).
He was called Deacon Joseph Wells, and he was a carpenter. Joseph and Thankful (SHAILER) Wells's children, all born in Hebron, CT: [Lists 13 children b. 1751-1771.]

For Old Turnpike Cemetery, with over 50 Wells including: Timothy Wells, d. 18 Oct 1784, Sec. c, Row 13, in his 28th year, son of Capt. Joseph and Thankfull.
