    • RESEARCH_NOTES:
      1. Eder, Illinois as is listed in "Lockwood Genealogies" is a misspelling for Eden, LaSalle, Illinois. Eden is now part of Peru, Illinois but did exist in 1850 census. Note that per same book that her grandchildren through Matthewson Bertrard Jr. are all born in Eden, LaSalle, Illinois prior to her death which means she could have been living with his son at time of death.

      3. Email from John Devinney 28 May 2004 : "Notes for Lucy Gilbert:
      A. Lucy Lockwood is found in La Salle County, Illinois in the 1850 census, she is in family 846-847 on the same page as her sons E D and M B. She is 70 born Conn, living in the household of A D Thomas age 27 a farmer born Conn, and Sarah H Thomas his wife age 17 born Mass. Her proven son V leroy is not living close to the family.
      B. Taken From The Tonica News, La Salle County, Illinois: August 28, 1875: "Died, on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1875 of dropsy, at the residence of her son, M. B. Lockwood, in the township of Eden, Mrs. Lucy G., widow of Madison B. Lockwood, aged 88 years. Mrs. Lockwood, accompanied by her sons, M. E. and E. D., came from Cleveland, O., and settled at Lamoile, Bureau county, in the spring of 1840, but after the marriage of M. B. and his settlement in Eden made his house her home. She was a member of the Congregational church, and distinguished for her remarkable energy of character and her practical devotion to her faith. She was an almost helpless invalid for a long period, closing with her death, but bore her affliction with remarkable fortitude, and was admired and venerated by all who knew her. E. D. Lockwood is a farmer of Peru township, and V. Leroy Lockwood is a Congregational clergyman of Brooklyn, N.Y.'"
