      2. The following extraction was made from the "Index to the Kent Lay Subsidy Roll of 1334/5," by H.A. Hanley, B.A. and C.W. Chalklin, M.A., B. Litt <http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Pub/KRV/18/7/313.htm> accessed 11 Feb 2016. From this index, the actual entries are found in "The Kent Lay Subsidy Roll of 1334/5," by the same authors <http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Pub/KRV/18/3/058-172.htm> accessed 12 Feb 2016. The second document more fully explains the history of this Lay Subsity. This was a tax assessed on householders; however, it probably only represents about 50% of the householders since the poorer families were not assessed:
Biss(c)hop, Jn., 81 (Hundred of Eastri [Eastry]); Mabel, 144 (Hundred of Akystane [Axton]); Reginald, 123 (Hundred of Twyford); Rd., 132 (Hundred of Schamele [Shamwell]); Robt., 110 (Hundred of Cranbroke [Cranbrook]).

      CHRISTENING:
      1. Hunton, Kent, England Parish Records online at Family Search or per FHL film 992524, it. 2.

      BURIAL:
      1. Hunton, Kent, England Parish Records online at Family Search or per FHL film 992524, it. 2. Some have reported that this Nicholas was bur. 16 Apr 1633 at Hunton; however, the record clearly states that it was Nicholas, the son of this Nicholas Bishoppe, who was buried.

      2. Hunton, Kent, England Parish Record Transcripts (FHL fiche 6341240) for the following burial: 1661, July 22 -- Mr. Nicholas Bishopp deceased July 18."

      MARRIAGE:
      1. One of the early extractions in Kent, England is a marriage of Nicholas Bishop and Elizabeth Bret 2 Apr 1616 at St. Mary Bredman, Canterbury, Kent. This is in east Kent and not west Kent and not normally in the close range of other marriages in the parish of Hunton, but there were occasions when this happened. Dates and names work, but there needs to be more to substantiate such a marriage. There is also another Nicholas Bishop marrying another person within a year or two of this marriage again over closer to Canterbury. Research needs to continue first before confirming if this is the same couple as our Nicholas and Elizabeth.
