      2. FHL book 929.273-K727kf: "Knapp's N' Kin, The Ancestral Lines of Frederick H Knapp and Others," compiled by: Frederick H Knapp, Rt. #2, Box 438C, AB Hwy, Richland, Missouri, 65556; 1987; Revised/Updated 1991:
"Caleb Knapp, son of Joshua, and our third generation ancestor, was quite a prominent man. He was the Representative for Greenwich in the Connecticut General Assembly, 12 May 1715; appraiser of several estates between 1725 and 1741, including that of Benjamin Rundle and Samuel Peck. He was on the Town Tax List in 1694/5 for 39 pounds and again in 1697, for 39 pounds 10 shillings. He was called an Ensign in August of 1710, and Captain in 1719 at Greenwich. The Town Tax List for Greenwich, Connecticut listed Benjamin Knapp- 31 pounds; CALEB- 39 pounds 10 shillings; Joseph Knapp- 73 pounds; Joshua- 54 pounds and Timothy Knapp- 47 pounds 5 shillings, giving indication of having fair estates for that period of history. He was granted a parcel of land 23 Aug 1700 and deeded land to sons, Charles and Nathaniel on 25 Nov 1728; to son, Caleb, 26 Jun 1731; to son Timothy, 12 Dec 1749. All of his children were born in Greenwich, Connecticut. His will made 21 Jun 1750, mentions wife, Sarah (Rundle) Knapp, children: Timothy-Caleb-Charles-Nehemiah-Abigail- sons, Nathaniel and Nehemiah, executors. The inventory of his estate was made 26 Nov 1750 and his will was probated 4 Dec 1750. Our Caleb, signed a petition for an Episcopal Church at Stamford/Greenwich, Connecticut. He and brother, Joshua, were appointed to a committee to see that a Mr Morgan, 2d Society Minister, either got someone to run his mill and tend to his business of minister or be replaced by the last of September 1708 if he did not. Rev Morgan spent more time running his mill than he did looking after the spiritual needs of the people. They dismissed Rev Morgan as the settled minister and replaced him with another minister. Caleb, was 7 years, 4 months old at the death of his father. Greenwich Records say: "Caleb Knap, maryed unto Sarah Rundle Anno 1697, April ye 1 day." Our Caleb was a steadfast pillar of this early period of our history."

      4. The book "Edward Jessup of West Farms of Westchester Co., New York, and his Descendants," by Henry Griswold Jesup, 1887, pp. 272-73:
"(11) Jonathan Jessup (Edward,4 Edward1), baptized 3 Aug., 1707, was born in Fairfield, but in 1732 was already living in Greenwich, where he also died. His name appears in the list of the First Parish, the oldest settlement in the town of Greenwich, as early as 1739. He added to the usual occupation of a farmer the very useful trade of a carpenter. His wife's name was Sarah, who is said to have been much younger than himself. Letters of administration were granted her 2 Aug., 1757, and his estate was distributed 14 March, 1759. The inventory was £403, 12s. gd. Eight children are mentioned, all living either in Stamford or Greenwich. The widow subsequently married Timothy Knapp* of Greenwich, and died at the age of ninety-three. Her children (all by her first marriage) were:
      +499. Jonathan,** b. 12 Sept., 1734.
      +500. Amos, b. 1 May, 1736.
      +501. Nathaniel, b. 23 May, 1738.
      502. David, bap. 22 Jan., 1749, who was living in 1771, and died, unmarried, at the house of his brother-in-law, George Dibble, in Stamford (Stanwich Parish).
      +503. Deborah, bap. 22 Jan., 1752.
      +504. Samuel, d. 17 Nov., 1812.
      +505. Silvanus, d. about 1812.
      +506. Phebe, bap. 22 Jan., 1749.
Nathaniel, Samuel, Silvanus, and Phebe were minors at the death of the father. At the Stamford Probate Office there is now on file the bond of Jonathan Dibble (their uncle) as guardian of the last three. At another date the mother gives bond as guardian of her two children; Jonathan, as guardian of his brother Nathaniel; and Amos, as guardian of Samuel. This family apparently belonged to St. John's Episcopal Parish in Stamford, as the names of several of the children and grandchildren are found upon the records of that parish."
      * Greenwich Town Records, ix. 22 (1 April, 1767), contain record of quitclaim of dower-right given by Timothy
Knapp and Sarah Knapp, of Greenwich, to "our well-beloved son Silvanus Jezup."
** The Town Records read as follows: "Jonathan Jezzup, first son, was born 12 Sept., 1734; another son was born 1 May, 1736, and he called his name Amos Jezzup; ye third, born 23 May, 173S, and he called his name Nathaniel Jezzup. Entered 10 April, 1740." The above is on a loose sheet, indexed as p. 339 of Book iv."

      MARRIAGE:
      1. Fred Knapp in the source cited below notes that the widow Sarah Jessup was previously married to Jonathan Jessup and that her maiden name is unknown.

      2. Date of marriage is presumed to be no earlier than the last child born to Lydia: Ruemah, b. 12 Aug 1767 in Greenwich.

      DEATH:
      1. Ancestral File list place of death as Sound Beach, CT; however, no such place exists in modern atlas. Perhaps Old Greenwich also called historically as Sound Beach.
