Ora Barlow, "The Israel Barlow Story and Mormon Mores": pp. 310-313 quotes from a letter written 12 Sep 1853 by Israel while in Rock Island, IL at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Lucinda Beebe Barlow, the widow of Israel's brother Jonathan Watson Barlow who had moved to that city in the 1840's and had died there 20 Jul 1851. Israel was traveling through on his way to his mission to England.
