Sarah Jane McKinney was born in Pennsylvania in 1838. She crossed the Plains with her parents in 1850, walking most of the way. The family settled in the Cottonwood area, but Sarah spent much of her time in Cedar Fort, Utah, with her half-sister, Eliza Ann, who was married to Henry William Hales. Sarah was married to Henry in the Endowment House on January 11, 1857, as his second wife. They lived in Cedar Fort and then Weber County where they had a farm. However, the railroad was built through the middle of their farm which made it hard to care for. They moved to Fairfield, then to Lake Town, Millard County. They moved to Deseret, Utah, in 1889. Sarah and her husband went to Woods Cross in 1909 for a conference, and he became ill there, and died. Sarah was devastated. She had no desire to keep on living. She died at her home in Deseret in 1915."
