OBITUARY:
1. The Deseret News, Tues., 15 Mar 1932, p. 6: "Spanish Fork - Mrs. Sarah Ann Hales, 67, widow of James L. Hales died Monday of kidney trouble. She was born in Spanish Fork, Jan. 2, 1865, a daughter of Allen and Suzan King Hodson. She married James L. Hales and they made their home here. Mrs. Hales had long been a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, a fraternal organization. She is survived by six sons and daughters: Mrs. Archie Robertson, Lovell, Wyo.; Mrs. Jack Kelsch and Hodson Hales, Salt Lake; James L. Hales, Jr., Theron B. Hales and Mrs. William A. Simmons, of Spanish Fork; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Alma Hales and Mrs. Ed. Hales, Spanish Fork; Mrs. Ann Whaling, Long Beach, Cal. and William Hodson, Burlington, Wyo. Friends may call at the home prior to the service which will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday."
2. Provo (Utah) Evening Herald, Tues., 15 Mar 1932, p. 8: "Death Calls Sarah Hales. Spanish Fork - Mrs. Sarah Ann Hodson Hales, widow of James L. Hales, prominent miller of Spanish Fork died at an early hour Monday morning after an illness of two days from uremic poisoning. She was a native of Spanish Fork was born Jan. 2, 1865, the daughter of Allen and Susan King Hodson. She married James L. Hales and they continued to make their home here. Her husband was well known in fraternal circles being a member of the Knights of the Macabees and she had been a member of the Royal Neighbors of America for many years. She is survived by six sons and daughters, Hodson Hales and Mrs. Jack Kelsch, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Archie Robertson, Lovell, Wyo.; James L. Hales, Jr. Theron B. Hales and Mrs. William A. Simmons, all of Spanish Fork, 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Alma Hales and Mrs. Ed Hales, Spanish Fork; Mrs. Ann Whaling, Long Beach, Calif.; and William Hodson, Burlington, Wyo. Friends may call at the Claudin Funeral home until Thursday morning when the remains will be taken to the family home. Funeral services will be held a the First ward chapel at 2 p.m. Thursdy afternoon. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City cemetery."
3. The Deseret News, Tues., 18 Mar 1932, p. 9: "Spanish Fork - Funeral for Mrs. Sarah Ann Hales, was held at the First ward Thursday. Speakers were Mrs. Effie S. Dart, representing the Royal Neighbors of America of which Mrs. Hales was a member; Joseph F. Hanson, Bishop William S. Beckstrom and Bishop Arthur T. McKell. Other music was furnished by the choir. Many relatives came from distant towns to attend the service. Interment was in the Spanish Fork cemetery."
