    • RESEARCH_NOTES:
      1. Today's Hampden County of Massachusetts was originally Middlesex County until it was split off in 1662 and named Hampshire County. Hampden County was formed from Hampshire County in 1812.

      2. Thomas and Anna had five children (John, Ebenezer, Margaret, Sarah, and Anna) all born between 1691 and 1697 in Springfield.

      3. From Worldconnect 24 Feb 2008 database "burgess_kimes" of Susan : "Thomas Gilbert III/IV?, took the oath of allegiance at Springfield 1678, is described as a wild youth, he was "presented" by a jury Sep 26, 1682 for hunting on at Qaubaug (Brookfield) on the Lord's Day. August 19, 1688, he was sent by Col. Pynchon as a soldier to Qaubaug; and Sept. 21 was sent again to help build a fort there. He removed to Brookfield in the spring of 1691, and in September was appointed constable. He took an active part in furthering settlement of the place, and his name appears on numerous petitions to the General Court. He returned with his young family to Springfield in 1696 or 1697 where he died, had 8? Children: Thomas IV/V? (Capt., moved to Brookfield, Worcester Co., MA in 1691. He became a leading man in civil affairs; was a Town Clerk 1718- 1753, Captain of the Militia, Justice of the Peace and town treasurer. Owned 480/4 acres of land, m. #1 Martha Barnes; m. #2 Mercy Gilbert), Samuel (died in infancy/Child?), unknown name (twin, died in infancy), Sarah (twin, died in infancy), Jonathan (moved to NC, m. Margary/Margery/Mercy Searles), Samuel, John (died in infancy), and Ebenezer (died in infancy)"

Sept: 11. 1685: Thomas & Abilene Gilbert had another daughter dead borne: Sept: 12: 1685: Jonathan the son of Thomas & Abilene Gilbert, was borne. Novem: 4th 1686: John the son of Thomas & Abilene Gilbert was borne. Febr: 28: 1687: Sarah the daughter of Thomas & Abilene Gilbert was Sicke & died octo: 14. 1685 Thomas Gilbert, son of Thomas and Catherine, married Abilene Marshfield, August 4, 1680. He was before the court for going fishing on Sunday with Marshfield's Indian servant, Tobey. His wife died November 26, 1689, and he married Anna Bancroft, daughter of Thomas, April 9, 1690. Thomas Gilbert died May 14, 1698, and his widow married James Sexton of Westfield. His children by the first wife were: - Thomas, b. November 3, 1681. Samuel, b. September 4, 1683. Sarah, b. September 11, 1685, d. October 14, 1685. Jonathan, b. November 4, 1686. John, b. February 28, 1687. Children by Second Wife. John, b. March 16, 1691. Ebenezer, b. ___, d. January 4, 1691. Margaret, b. March 27, 1693, and went to Brookfield. Sarah, b. January 18, 1694. Anna, b. February 16, 1696, m. Joseph Segar."

      1. Married first to Abilene Marshfield 5 Aug 1680 in Springfield with whom he several children. She died 26 Nov 1689 in Springfield.
