      2. Biography found on Family Search 6 Jul 2015 submitted from Dale Smith with no further information:
"Louisa Hales was chr. Stockbury, Kent, on 29 May 1803, probably the third of at least 7 children born to Henry Hales and his wife, the former Hannah Kitney. She had two sisters. Mary Ann was four years older, and Mary Elizabeth was two years older. Other children came after her.
In 1827, in Milstead, she bore a son, George, named after, it is presumed, George Branchett. Although two years older than his next brother, William, they are both listed as being the same age (12 yrs) in the census of 1841. It would appear that the stigma of an unmarried woman to bear a child was severe, even in those days, and thus George Jr. was made to appear to have been born about 1829 instead of the actual 1827.
George Branchett and Louisa married the next year, on the 28 May 1828, at the age of 24. He was a 25-year old agricultural laborer of the district, and they married at Gillingham, Kent, which is about 6 miles northwest of Stockbury in a direct line.
The next year, in 1829, when their first son William was born, they were living in Kingsdown. By 1834, they were probably living at Milstead, where their first daughter Mary was born. By the next year they had moved 4 miles away to the south-east to Lenham, where son Henry E. Branchett was born, and they were still there the next year, when their next son Harry was born. George Branchett would have moved around rural Kent wherever there was agricultural work-indeed, they may have moved several times during a year, depending on plantings or harvest. By 1838 when daughter Hannah was born, they were living in Kingsdown.
In the 1841 census, the family, now consisting of 39 year old George, Louisa, 38 yrs., and six children -- George, 14, William, 12, Thomas, 10, Mary, 7, Henry, 6, and Hannah, 3, were living at "Walnut Tree" Kingsdown, Kent. The seventh child, Harry, was not there,
In the 1851 census, Louisa, now 48, was listed as living apart from her family in Milstead, Kent. She was listed as a monthly nursemaid. In fact, she was living "in" at a house "Holly Bushes", as a "Monthly nursemaid." Her husband and two children, Hannah, and 16 year old Henry were living at "Walnut Tree" in Kingsdown, about 1.3 miles away. Louisa was working for Mancie and Sarah Maxted, who had two babies -- the first was one year of age, and the second was "under 1 year," so they would obviously have benefited from domestic help, which at that time was not expensive.
By the time of the 1861 census, the entire family had moved to Milstead, Kent. At home with the parents were two children -- Mary, 27, listed as a char-woman, and Henry E., 26 yrs (Ag. Lab.) and two grandchildren: Louisa M. A. (Mary Ann?) Branchett 4 yrs of age, and George L. Branchett aged 1 yr. At this time they were living at "#3 Blue Town, Milstead, or Cottage next Walnut Tree." As well, they had taken in a 57-year old "lodger," a journeyman carpenter named Stephen Eagleson. Immediately next door, at #2 Blue Town, was son Thomas Branchett his wife Harriet, and their family.
In the next census, in 1871, they were still living in Milstead, in the same residence, with son Harry, and grandaughter Louisa still with them. Also present on census day was a 22 year old unmarried "porter", a visitor from London, named Joseph Lynn. Three houses away, at #5 Blue Town was son William Branchett, listed as a "carter", his wife Maria, and their five children ranging in aages from 13 yrs to 4 years of age. This was very close to Rawling St. Milstead, where Dorothy Evans was born (7 houses away).
On the 30 June 1873, Louisa's husband George passed away at the age of 71. Louisa was 70.
By 1881, Louisa was 78 years of age, and was living at the farm "Ringlestone", at Rodmersham, in the parish of Hollingbourne, with her 45 year old son Henry, a "Farmer of 28 acres" and her daughter Hannah, 42 yrs., who was listed as the "Housekeeper".
Louisa was listed as "Ag. Lab. widow". Her husband, farm labaorer George Branchett had died 15 years before she did. At 88 years of age, on Mon., 24 Nov. 1890, she passed away at Ringlestone farm, Rodmersham, where her son and a couple of daughters ran their farm. The cause of death was listed as "probably syncope," which is a loss of consciousness or fainting. Her death certificate was signed by the "X" of her son, Henry Branchett, who was present at the death. She was interred in the Milstead cemetery."
