1. Today's Hampden County of Massachusetts was originally Middlesex County until it was split off in 1662 and named Hampshire County. Hampden County was formed from Hampshire County in 1812.

A. "Deacon Selah Talmadge was born 28 Dec 1788 in Wolcott, New Haven, Connecticut. He died 6 Oct 1859 in Southwick, Hampden, Massachusetts. Selah married Laura Gillette on 13 Feb 1814 in Granville, Hampden, Massachusetts. Parents are John Talmadge, b. 8 Mar 1755 in Branford, New Haven, Connecticut and Lucretia Moulthrop, b. 1756 in East Haven, New Haven.
Laura Gillette was born 4 Aug 1791 in Granville, Hampden, Massachusetts. She died 28 Nov 1845 in Southwick, Hampden, Massachusetts. Laura married Deacon Selah Talmadge on 13 Feb 1814 in Granville, Hampden, Massachusetts.
They had the following children:
Thomas Talmadge was born 20 Jan 1815 in Southwick, Hampden, Massachusetts.
Sylvanus Talmadge was born 11 Apr 1818 in Southwick, Hampden, Massachusetts. He died 25 May 1854 in Southwick, Hampden, Massachusetts.
Nelson Talmadge was born 26 May 1820 and died 24 Nov 1856.
Philura Talmadge was born 27 Oct 1822 in Southwick, Hampden, Massachusetts.
Mary Talmadge was born 24 Feb 1825 in Southwick, Hampden, Massachusetts.
